You will no doubt have heard about the floods that have affected the Cumbria region over the weekend, especially outlying areas like Carlisle. I’m pleased to say that the central Lake District is relatively untroubled today, with Grasmere, Ambleside and Windermere mostly returning to normal. The local roads are dry. For info – the A591 is closed north of Grasmere at the north end of Thirlmere, so if you’re coming to Rothay Garden, the best way is from the south (ie. from the Ambleside direction).
On Saturday (5th December), we had water ingress into four bedrooms and the lower part of the Garden Restaurant. But I’m pleased to say that the restaurant is already fully back to normal, and the hotel – including the Riverside Spa – is fully operational. Overall, our flood defences have held against the worst rainfall ever experienced in Cumbria and whilst this created some immediate difficulties, we are delighted to have weathered the storm (literally) and look forward to greeting our guests over the coming days and weeks.
