Call us biased, but we can’t imagine a more picturesque setting for a film than the Lake District, so we’re eagerly awaiting the new Swallows and Amazons adaption, filmed just minutes from Rothay Garden Hotel.
Arthur Ransome’s iconic 1930 adventure novel; Swallows and Amazons is the first in a series of books by the author, which follows the exploits of characters, John, Susan, Titty and Roger Walker in the Lake District during the school holidays.
Several adaptations have been created for both TV and big screen, but none so more hotly anticipated than the latest film, starring Rafe Spall, Andrew Scott, Kelly Macdonald, Harry Enfield and Jessica Hynes.
Due in cinemas on 19th August, the heart-warming film is staying true to its original setting, and filming has been taking place throughout Cumbria and Yorkshire.

Hire a boat or take a passenger launch between stops including Keswick, Portinscale and Lodore Falls. Alternatively, take to network of footpaths and explore the hills surrounding the lake.
