Crafts and Carols at Allan Bank (Various dates in December)
Wordsworth’s historic home in Grasmere is always an atmospheric place in the winter. Besides revisiting the work of the great poet, however, the National Trust site is also a great place to inspire your own creativity with a little help from local experts. There are sessions and workshops to Create your Own Festive Wreath (Dec 10th) or Christmas Card Workshops (12th Nov) with Printmaker Karen Lester. Ambleside Lantern Procession and Christmas Lights Switch On (Nov 19th)

A wonderful community event, this is a great evening to see the town transformed and local creativity out in force with scores of gorgeous hand-crafted illuminations, followed by the switch on itself and a gorgeous firework display. For earlier birds however, there is also plenty going on in the day, with special Christmas Cruises from Waterhead Pier and various street entertainers. For a taste of Christmas past, not to mention a great way to keep kids active and occupied, this Lake District attraction always has a busy, bubbly program of hands on family events and activities. Whether it’s getting a first hand perspective on Christmas in a Victorian times, or making your own gifts and decorationsusing traditional methods, there is always something to do here. Windermere Craft Fair (Nov) and German Christmas Market (Nov 10 & 11) in Windermere
Several festive events are set to add Christmas cheer at Windermere this year.There is a Christmas Craft Fair (Nov 20th) at the Ladyholme Centre, Lake Road (LA23 2JA). Or if you’re here in December, there will be a continental flavour with the Windermere German Christmas Market (Dec 10th & 11th), which promises speciality food, gifts and live entertainment, along with an appearance from Santa Claus for younger guests and the wonder of gluhweiin for the grownups.
